Clean mobility takes the spotlight at COP16

Métele Pedal is a Colombian citizen initiative focused on promoting the broader and more effective use of bicycles. In October 2024, Cali hosted COP16, a platform for discussing biodiversity. The initiative crafted a strategy to highlight the often-overlooked connection between biodiversity and sustainable mobility, drawing attention to this crucial issue and fostering dialogue on air pollution and decarbonization efforts.
Inspired by Cali's vibrant culture, Métele Pedal organized the "Borondo for the Birds and Butterflies" mobilization. The event creatively incorporated art, including a costume workshop with sustainable materials, a promotional poster designed by a local artist, and cultural activities like dances and theatrical performances.
The mobilization featured a tour with about 350 participants, witnessed by over 10,000 attendees at the COP16 green zone. Through social media and media coverage, the event reached over a million people, including local leaders, organizations, media, and policymakers. To further strengthen the dialogue, Métele Pedal organized a "COPversatory" with Y4PT and UITP, bringing together over 30 civil society representatives and 10 decision-makers to propose ideas on mobility and biodiversity.
