New Netflix documentary Buy Now! features Amazon Employees for Climate Justice

One of the stars of this must-watch documentary is Maren Costa, co-founder of Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, and it also features the story of how Amazon tech workers won The Climate Pledge through collective action. As Amazon’s first user experience designer, Maren led groundbreaking projects but also fought passionately for real climate action within the company. In Buy Now! The shopping Conspiracy, Maren exposes the gaps in Amazon’s 2019 Climate Pledge, questioning its promises of net-zero emissions by 2040 and revealing greenwashing tactics. Her story shines a light on the fight for corporate accountability and the role workers can play in holding their company accountable.

The documentary’s release comes at a time when Amazon employees, including those behind the Teamsters strikes, are demanding better conditions, wages, and environmental responsibility from the company. Recently, Amazon Employees for Climate Justice released an independent employee survey showing that a majority of surveyed corporate workers do not trust senior leadership on issues including environmental impact — less than 15% of employees believe that leadership is accurately representing the company's climate impact to the public.
