Vietnam’s capital Hanoi developing low-emission zone regulations

To tackle air pollution from transportation, Hanoi authority is developing a policy to mandate low-emission zones (LEZ) that aligns with the city’s 2024 air quality management plan. CMC-SEA member Live&Learn and environment and transport experts are providing technical support for Hanoi.

Measures planned for LEZ and cleaner transportation in Hanoi include tightening emission standards for all circulating vehicles entering LEZ, enhancing public transport, establishing a network of vehicle emission inspection stations, supporting low-carbon mobility like bike sharing, bike lanes and increasing public, green spaces.

Hoan Kiem District, a historic and densely populated area, will be the first pilot area for the LEZ.
